When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:
‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’
And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, ‘Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.’

New data projector needed
The data screen is in an area which has a lot of natural light (backlight) and it is not practical – or desirable – to alter the light in the sanctuary. The bright background causes a number of problems when showing slides for church and other services, such as funerals.
Improved technology means that more powerful projectors are now available that can mitigate the effect of bright background light. It is proposed to test some new generation data projectors with a view to replacing the existing one.
The other pressing issue is that the projector bulb – which costs upwards of $1000 – is getting old and is due for replacement, so the time would appear to be right to investigate other options.
Once options have been investigated and quotations obtained, a proposal for a replacement projector will be made to Vestry. Once Vestry gives the go-ahead we will be asking parishioners to contribute to the cost of the new projector.
The first donation has already been received.
We will keep you advised of developments.
In the meantime, here’s a lovely little version of This little light of mine for you to enjoy.
Starting this week includes –
- New group for the 13-18s – Isora – starts on Sunday, 3 February. Hang with KidZ Unlimited for a time of prayer and worship and then go and do some study. Speak to Gareth Palmer or Kat Sprowson if you (or your kids) are interested.
- Raptorous Youth starts on 2 February
Part Two of A Time of Increase is up on Steve’s new blog. If you couldn’t work out how to place a comment last week, I’m sure you’ll find it a lot more obvious this week.
Note: Because the comments are screened to make sure no nasties from the internet end up in the Comments, your comment probably won’t appear for an hour or so until the webmaster releases it.
Here’s this week’s episode.
Outdoor Adventure Firewood Fundraiser
If you answer one of those advertisements for firewood in the paper you’ll likely pay about $150 for 3 square metres (almost a cord). If you get firewood from the parish, you can make a donation of what you can afford and they’ll even deliver it for you. It’s even cheaper if you pick it up yourself.
Keep yourself warm this winter – and help our Outdoor Adventure Group by getting your firewood from them. Contact the Parish Office if you’re interested.
As we step into a new year, let us pray for the Breath of God to be upon us, to bring fresh inspiration by the Holy Spirit, that we may be right in the centre of God’s will for us as a church family.
- Lenten studies, that all those taking part will be encouraged by God’s Word.
- Please pray for Edwin and those who are ill as they recuperate and get well.
- Isora – new study group for youth – pray God’s blessing, that our young people will be impacted by the gospel, also pray for God’s anointing upon Kat and Gareth as they lead.
The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of His hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech, night after night they display knowledge.” Psalm 19, NIV
