St Matthew’s Have a Grow community gardening project featured on the front page of this week’s Wairarapa Midweek.

The Have a Grow project started in 2009 with the aim of teaching families or groups how to sustain a viable home vegetable garden.

With a $6,000 grant from the Wairarapa Families Anglican Trust, eight 3m x 7m garden plots have now been set up behind the Parish Hall and each participant is mentored to produce their own demonstration garden, with all the garden tools and equipment provided. Participants commit to 12 months supervised weekly maintenance of a provided plot.

At the end of 12 months the project offers to set up raised gardens in their own homes and continues to mentor them for a further 12 months.

If you know of families or individuals who might benefit, get in touch with Steve (06) 370-8589.

Thanks to Kerri Bowling and Wairarapa Midweek for writing about the project and for the photograph.
